Awards Unlike Any Other (mostly)
We recognise that people and organisations are often a little cynical about awards events. Let me tell you a little about the NORAs
The National Online Recruitment Awards, from the very beginning in 2000, have been (and are) the only recognition by candidates of recruitment websites. We include every website, and do not exclude on the basis of entrance fee, or even to those who choose to enter. The public get to decide that. We do not claim to be the most prestigious awards. That’s for others to judge.
The credibility of the NORAs is derived entirely from our nomination and judging process. Nominations from the jobseeking public are then assessed by our expert judging panels, whose single duty is to do so from a candidate’s perspective. Whilst very experienced in traditional recruitment, online recruitment or HR, our judges are entirely independent from the sites they are assessing. In fact in the past judges have recused themselves if any potential conflict arose.
We shan’t be awarding any frivolous prizes like “Best Job Alert” or “Best positioning of a logo on a job advert, booked on a Tuesday afternoon”, or indeed “Most super person in the industry”. The NORAs does not seek to flatter those who run the largest recruitment websites. Rather, our aim is to let candidates themselves, and our peers in the industry, know what “good practice” looks like. OK, the Wooden NORA award is a little frivolous, but with a purpose (and for this year only).
This is not a cosy back-slapping exercise, where we squeeze £200 a ticket for a 3 course meal. The NORAs is the first, and the very best, showcase of online recruitment in action in the UK. Our informal event format means that connections are made, deals are done, and inspiration is gained. No one goes home empty handed.
Of the 730 recruitment websites nominated this year, only 72 have been shortlisted as Finalists. That’s less than 10% which make the cut. That top 10% of our industry will be represented at our awards event next Tuesday 12th November. On the night there will be 14 winners, which is roughly only 2% of all nominated recruitment websites. If your site is one of our Finalists or Winners this year (or any year), you’ll know how hard this is to achieve. Knowing all this, I say that these sites have earned, and deserve, all the recognition they get.
