Judges 2014

The Panel of Judges for the 2014 National Online Recruitment Awards. As usual they will, of course, have extensive experience of the current online recruitment sector. They are selected on the basis of this knowledge, and have no vested interested in the nominated websites. A separate consulting panel of industry experts are involved in producing the shortlist of Finalist sites, from the thousands of nominations we receive via NORAuk.com.

Founder of PC Evaluate, AlljobsUK.com, and the National Online Recruitment Awards. Stephen has been a professional recruiter for the last 27 years, and has owned and run successful recruitment companies since 1993.  PC Evaluate provides personality profiling services to employers throughout the UK.

Stephen O’Donnell is Chairman of the Judging Panel.




Felix Wetzel – Having worked in digital recruitment for over 13 years (Jobsite, Evenbase, Jobrapido), Felix Wetzel is an expert in digital recruitment and recruitment marketing and a leading commentator on digital marketing, social media, mobile and the future of recruitment.




Neil Morrison is Group HR Director for Penguin Random House UK, the world’s largest general book publishing company. A member of the CIPD with just short of 20 years experience in generalist and specialist HR roles, including time spent leading resourcing teams. Neil is also an experienced HR blogger and sector commentator.




Ann Swain is the Chief Executive of The Association of Professional Staffing Companies.  Ann has headed APSCo, and before that its predecessor, ATSCo, for the past 12 years; creating a well-respected trade association known for its energy, thought leadership, outstanding membership service offering and lobbying power.




Anita Holbrow is the Director of Member Services at the REC, looking after all aspects of the REC to do with commercial business, products, Corporate Membership, IRP, Sales and Marketing, with strategic and operational business growth and development also in her remit.




Tim worked in the recruitment industry for 15 years prior to becoming one of the founders of @yu:talent, the latter 12 of which spent at Search Consultancy. Having recruited across multiple sectors and disciplines, his mission is to channel that hands on experience into making yu:talent the optimum tool for the recruiter.




Since 2006, Jennifer has operated as the Head of Global Talent Acquisition for SABMiller, the second largest global brewer with operations in 80 countries and over 70,000 employees. She was selected in 2014 as a project lead for LinkedIn 100, a group of global TA thought leaders, named as one of the Top 20 UK Recruiting Pioneers by “Resourcing Magazine ” in 2008 and was profiled as one of the 11 most influential UK based resourcing leaders by “Recruiter Magazine in 2013.




Siân Harrington has been the editor of the prestigious and definitive HR Magazine since 2006.  In that time, Siân has won HR Journalist of the Year, 2010 Finalist for Editor of the Year, and HR Magazine was acclaimed HR Publication of the Year for 2010.


Peter Gold.  With over 20 years recruitment experience and the last few years being heavily involved in using social media, Peter now advises employers on how to use social media for both internal and external talent management initiatives, as well as “more traditional” on-line recruitment activities ranging from attraction to measuring results


Shortlisting Panel

In advance of the judging stage, we have a Selection Panel of industry experts, who will assess all websites nominated by jobseekers, and produce our shortlist of Finalists.  To ensure transparency in the awards process, this group are quite separate from our Judging Panel, but just as vital to the NORAs.



Louise Triance has a background in recruiting and the internet. She is founder and director of UKRecruiter.co.uk which, via its web site and newsletter, provides comprehensive and independent information to the recruitment industry.  Louise has been involved with the NORAs since the beginning, and is the Vice-Chair of our Judging Panel.




Matt Alder is the founder of strategic consultancy MetaShift and has spent the last twelve years working within the Internet space. He became involved in online recruitment eleven years ago, spending seven years as Head of Interactive Media with TMP Worldwide followed by four years as Head of Digital at Penna Barkers.





Bill Boorman is the co – founder of #TruEvents. Unconferences globally in and around Recruiting & HR.Recruiter Trainer. Key-Note Speaker.  Formerly Director of Training with Primetime Recruitment, Bill has been at the forefront of the charge to shape Social Media Recruitment in the UK.






Katharine Robinson (aka @TheSourceress on Twitter) Katharine Robinson uses the Internet to track down tough to find talent. Katharine is now a successful freelance advisor on online recruitment strategies. She has worked with clients such as Capgemini Consulting, Ochre House, Verizon and PepsiCo. Katharine is a frequent public speaker on the social web (and how to search it).




Lisa Scales is the Co- Founder of Tribepad, the multi-award winning next generation recruitment platform used to great effect by some of the world’s largest employers.

As Co-Founder of Three Sparks Global, producers of Pocket Recruit, Dave Martin’s name is now synonymous with mobile recruiting technologies.  He is an accomplished technologist in all aspects of online recruitment, and a much sought after speaker on the subject.




Jamie Leonard is founder and Managing Director with Reconverse, a series of boutique learning events for the in-house recruitment market, covering semimonthly subjects such as the candidate experience, social recruiting, big data and other hot topics.

Wendy McDougall is the CEO of the innovative Firefish Software. Having launched, and recently successfully exited her own leading IT recruitment firm, Wendy has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the UK recruitment sector.




Kevin Turner – Co-founder and editor, Ri5.Career: media sales, ad agencies, management and selection consultancy, general management, business writer.  Started Ri5 to promote a belief that fair and open communication is at the heart of effective recruitment.


The criteria to be used in judging will include:

1. Ease of use, design, layout & speed.

2. Volume of available vacancies.

3. Volume of claimed visitors, where applicable.

4. Available facilities for jobseekers. This will include the availability of mobile websites and applications, and integration with social media channels.

5. Prominence in targeted market.

Sites will be judged from the point of view of a jobseeker, and what benefits candidates best.
